Research Activities
The Acharya Forage Agronomy Lab focuses on the following research areas to advance sustainable, resource-efficient, eco-friendly, and economic approaches to forage production, storage, and utilization.
- improve management practices to enhance forage productivity and quality,
- annual and perennial forages
- forage mixtures (annual-perennial, legume-nonlegume)
- cover crops for feedstock, grazing, and ecosystem services
- forage crops in rotation
- alfalfa and hay management
- variety improvements (trials)
- understand biogeochemical cycling to optimize soil health, carbon sequestration, soil fertility, and soil and water quality,
- develop climate-resilient farming strategies and
- evaluate frontier soil management technologies to enhance soil carbon sequestration and mitigate agricultural greenhouse gas emissions
